McCarthy Building

Historical Restoration
The original headquarters for the McCarthy Department Store chain, this building lost its historical character when renovations in the 1960s covered its beautiful 1897 façade. The building’s condition and occupancy declined sharply in the 1980s as economic conditions soured. But in the derelict building Washington St. Partners saw the potential to restore a former architectural treasure, fulfill the city’s need for office space and attract tenants to downtown Syracuse. We removed the 1960s-era facing, restored the building to its 19th century grandeur and introduced our expert property management capabilities. Today the McCarthy Building is 100-percent occupied with stable office and retail tenants who add much to the city’s revitalized and vibrant downtown scene.
